CALIFON COMMUNITY LINKS
The Borough of
Califon is a charming small town located in Hunterdon Country adjacent to
Morris County. A branch of the Raritan
River runs through the town and a beautiful iron bridge crosses it. This bridge was the inspiration for the
bridge in the Frank Capra movie, It’s a Wonderful Life. While on the bridge, George Baily is
prevented from leaping into the raging waters by his guardian angel,
Clarence. Califon has that small
hometown, neighborly atmosphere that was found in Bedford Falls. It is
surrounded by beautiful scenery, but convenient for commuting via Routes 78,
287, 22 and 31. Follow the links below

Due to its small size and
wise government officials, the borough of Califon shares services with several
other municipalities. Police Protection
is provided by the Washington Township (Morris County) Police Department – Long
Valley. Many of the building and health
department responsibilities are handled by Tewksbury Township. Califon’s Fire
and Rescue Squads are all volunteer, which speaks to the civic mindedness of
its citizens.
